After linking up with the production duo, Somehow At Sea, Lateef released this new mixtape in preparation for his new album FIREWIRE dropping 11.8.11. The mixtape has a great blend of electro-pop, funk, hip hop, and rock-solid bars that Lateef has been bringing for last 2 decades. I hadn’t heard Somehow At Sea before, but I have a feeling I’m going to be hearing a lot more from them.

Here’s what Lateef has to say on the project:
“The “Truth at Sea” mixtape is one of the riskiest mixtapes I’ve done. Part Hip-hop, part electronic, part crazy, it has some of my most spitfire verses to date as well as some of my most experimental singing song-writer stuff. Produced entirely by Somehow at Sea and featuring a small, handpicked group of guests, I’m very proud of the finished product.”

“95% of what I’m spitting is the truth/ other 5% is story telling, but
shoot/ I’m a real MC and that’s what MC’s do.”- Clif Soulo
He’s from Oakland, a place where you’re either a gangster rapper or a
revolutionary messenger; He’s neither. Instead, he’s a traditional MC.
No.
He’s not a “traditional MC” because of his wordplay, his delivery, or
his references back to the golden era of hip-hop.
No.
Clif Soulo isn’t even a traditional MC because he has tried his hand
at all of the elements of Hip-Hop, only to realize that being an MC is
his calling.
