Distant Relatives Tour ft. Nneka

There are moments when you realize that the music you are hearing and the people who are performing it are coming from somewhere far older than their individual lives might suggest. When the studio production, concert speakers and lighting effects fall away and the spirit of humanity shines through. Coming from a lineage of teaching, passion, leadership and artistry, these are the voices of our ancestors.

The world tour of Nas and Damien Marley’s Distant Relatives and Nneka’s Concrete Jungle are one of these moments.

On May 28, the sold out Los Angeles Wiltern Theatre was filled with energy and anticipation. And as I stood there amongst the crowd I realized how historic the moment was. To describe the show would not do it justice, and so I will just say this: the live combination of Nas, Damien Marley and Nneka is something far more powerful than great songwriting and equally great performing. It represents a call back to one of the most important parts of music, which is the passing on of a message meant to inspire action. These three artists are making a very clear message that our global attention must become more directed at the suffering heart of our civilizations: Africa.
Peace,
Alex

“This album itself is a contribution to raise awareness in general.” – Damien Marley

“Of course this is history in the making, these guys don’t care about a single, you’re thinking about this the wrong way homeboy, this is about touching people.” – DJ Green Lantern
